Description
A 6 shot, 36 caliber percussion revolver.
These London made examples, are basically the same as Colt contemporary Hartford production, and identified by the ;Address Col.Colt London stamped to the top flat of the 7-1/2 inch octagonal barrel. There is also a serial range of 1 to 42000 manufactured.
This example has a #1273, C 1853, and falls into the early made examples, having a small rounded trigger guard, with a silvered backstrap/trigger guard, retaining a very high % of silver, over brass. All serial numbers are stamped to the correct parts of the revolver, and are all matching.
O/a there is a thinning blue finish, with areas of stain, and superficial pitting to the muzzle area of the LHS of the barrel.
The 6 shot cylinder has British proofs [ Crown /V and Crown / GP]. The cylinder has a small area of superficial pitting, and there is some cylinder scene still present.
The rifled bore is vg, with only minor areas of stain. Action to 1/2 and full cock very strong.
The one piece walnut stock is intact, to a varnished finish.
Many of these revolvers were sent out to the British forces in the Crimea in 1854
