A Named Royal Artillery Officer Sword, Wilkinson

Description

A Named Royal Artillery Officer Sword, Wilkinson No: 14278. With slightly curved single edged blade, double edged towards the point, cut with a long deep fuller running along the back edge of the blade, etched with foliate decoration, crowned GR cypher, family crest ‘A.F.M.’, and Royal Artillery crest, three bar hilt with wire bound fish skin grip and chequered back strap, contained in its original steel scabbard with two suspension rings.

The sword belonged to Andrew Forbes Mackeller R.A. who purchased it from Wilkinson on the 15th March 1866 on his commission to Lieutenant, he was later killed in action in Karkee India on June 27th 1878, aged 31.
