Description

A Pattern 1796 Heavy Dragoon Pistol. With round barrel marked with Tower proofs, rounded lock plate with double border line engraving signed ‘Ketland & Co’ across the tail and with crown over ‘GR’ in the centre, along with what appears to be an ordnance mark under the pan, full-stocked in walnut with brass furniture comprising side-plate, butt cap, trigger guard and ramrod pipes, steel ramrod. In beautiful uncleaned condition.

Wholesale Gun & Birmingham Ware House, 2 Scots Yd., Bush Lane, Cannon St., 1785-7; 10 Cannon Street, 1788-9; 23 Abchurch Lane, Lombard St., 1790-5; 1 Angle Ct., Throgmorton St., 1795-1800. Succeeded by James Ketland. It is not clear which members of the family constituted this firm whose name with ‘London’ appears on many export guns and locks. At least one directory entry shows W. Ketland & Co. at 23 Abchurch Lane, 1800.
