Description

Offered for Sale is one of the finest examples that I have seen of this Iconic German 2nd WW Naval Sextant of the Kriegsmarine.
Manufactured in white metal, and finished in black, to the highest quality, with no blemishes or damage. It is of a lattice frame design, with the main arm activated by a pinch grip, and fine movements with a screw micrometer device. The arm is clearly stamped with the Kriegsmarine “Eagle/Swastika/M” followed by it ‘s Kriegsmarine number ..6103, with “C Plath Hamburg”.
The Arc is graduated -5* to 135*, and is stamped with it’s manufacturing number 21115 at one end, and the Kriegsmarine Logo [ The Sun Shooter Man], at the other end.
There is an Index mirror, with 4 hinged shades, a Horizon mirror, with 3 hinged shades. All mirrors are 100% perfect, with no discolouration. Standing on 3 legs, with a bakerlite handle to the reverse, stamped again with a motif “C Plath/Hamburg” and the Sun Shooter Man Logo.
Complete with a single Telescope, with individual eye focus, to a perfect stippled black finish.
Contained in it’s original, fitted, wooden case, measuring 12-1/2 inches X 12-1/2 inches X 6-3/4 inches. It has a hinged lid, metal catches, metal carrying handle, and a lock with no key. This case is in excellent condition, with no damage, and only minor scuffs to the exterior. There is provision in the lid for a certificate of validation.
I have included a 5 page detailed document of the history of C Plath during the 2nd WW. It should be mentioned that this company was founded in 1837, and although “dismantled” by the Allies between 1948-1949, it was immediately revived in 1950. Theodor Plath [ the son of C Plath], died in 1960.
Without a doubt, an example that will be very difficult to better.
Research from any records that still remain in the Plath Archives, will hopefully reveal, which war year this instrument was made …. So C 1939 -1945

GB Millais Antiques

I have dealt in Antique Arms and Armour for about 35 years, and my interest began as a school boy during the 2nd WW.
After leaving my home town of Leicester, I went to University, and qualified as a Dental Surgeon at Guys Hospital in 1961 .
My main interests are British and North American Arms of the 18th, 19th,and early 20th Century, plus a few Continental items.
It was 14 years ago that I retired from Dentistry. However, I have continued running my Antiques business, initially while still in practice, and now make most of my sales online, but still exhibit at a number of specialized Antique Arms and Militaria Fairs eg .. Bisley, Bristol, and also at the IACF Fairs, at Ardingly, Sussex.
I also deal in Period Scientific Instruments, mainly of a military association, and have a full listing on www.fleaglass.com.
