Description
Offered for sale is a fine Antique pair of Queen Ann style, Cannon barrelled travelling pistols, by Haynes & Co London.
Each pistol has a bocklock flintlock action, and a hinged Steel.
The 2-1/4″ turn off barrels are of a Cannon barrel construction. Each Lock is inscribed “Haynes & Co” to the RHS, with engravings, plus floral designs to the LHS.
The action to 1/2 and full cock is sound, with a sliding trigger guard safety at 1/2 cock. The slab sided Walnut stocks are profusely inlaid with Silver wire, with only one minor piece missing on one pistol. Both are clearly stamped with London Proofs [to the lower aspect of the Lock/barrel interface]. These proofs indicate manufacture post 1740, and it is almost certain, that these pistols were made by Francis Haynes, C 1760, before his departure to go and work as an Armourer in Minorca 1763.
A very attractive pair of English Flintlock Pistols, with an o/a length of 7-1/2″

Millais Antiques
I have dealt in Antique Arms and Armour for about 35 years, and my interest began as a school boy during the 2nd WW.
After leaving my home town of Leicester, I went to University, and qualified as a Dental Surgeon at Guys Hospital in 1961 .
My main interests are British and North American Arms of the 18th, 19th,and early 20th Century, plus a few Continental items.
It was 14 years ago that I retired from Dentistry. However, I have continued running my Antiques business, initially while still in practice, and now make most of my sales online, but still exhibit at a number of specialized Antique Arms and Militaria Fairs eg .. Bisley, Bristol, and also at the IACF Fairs, at Ardingly, Sussex.
I also deal in Period Scientific Instruments, mainly of a military association, and have a full listing on www.fleaglass.com.
