Description

Offered for Sale is this fine pair of Antique Flintlock, Boxlock Pocket Pistols. They each have a turn off round barrel, length of 1-1/2 inches, now seized, and to a typical grey metal patina, with engraving to the muzzle end. The round frames are brass, with upper and lower brass grip tangs. Both have fine engraving to left and right sides, with Birmingham proofs stamped to the lower frame and barrel. Perhaps the most interesting feature are the very unusual, and raised pans. [ see photos]. The ring necked Cocks are of elegant form, each with a flint extant, and the strike plates hinge fore and aft smoothly. Action is strong to half and full cock, to deploy concealed triggers. The sliding safety catches are stiff, but do work. The walnut grips are rounded, with fine checkering, and each have a vacant white metal escutcheon situated to the rear aspect. Unsigned, and it is thought that this pair may well be apprentice pieces, with Birmingham Proofs. C1815 O/a length 6 inches.

GB Millais Antiques

I have dealt in Antique Arms and Armour for about 35 years, and my interest began as a school boy during the 2nd WW.
After leaving my home town of Leicester, I went to University, and qualified as a Dental Surgeon at Guys Hospital in 1961 .
My main interests are British and North American Arms of the 18th, 19th,and early 20th Century, plus a few Continental items.
It was 14 years ago that I retired from Dentistry. However, I have continued running my Antiques business, initially while still in practice, and now make most of my sales online, but still exhibit at a number of specialized Antique Arms and Militaria Fairs eg .. Bisley, Bristol, and also at the IACF Fairs, at Ardingly, Sussex.
I also deal in Period Scientific Instruments, mainly of a military association, and have a full listing on www.fleaglass.com.
