Description
A Harquebusiers Backplate and Associated Culet, English Circa 1650. The backplate has a raised neck (due to the addition of an adapted gorget, the backplate is originally from a pikemans armour) and narrow flange at waist. The neck, arm and flange edges have inward turns. The culet is of five lames, overlapping upwards, the final plate decorated with scalloped edge, attached to the backplate by two rivets, The upper lame has a transverse angle to fit over the flange of the backplate, In the centre is a hole to fit over a peg on the flange. the culet is decorated with double line engraving to each lame and a row of lining rivets along the edges and decorated with three rosettes of rivets. The backplate is also fitted with half of a gorget.
