Description
This is a very good example of what is now a rare piece of British Military history.
It has a standard 12″ round barrel, of 24 bore, now to a silver grey patina of age, with some minor speckling, and 2 proofs, stamped to the rear LHS.
The lock is clearly stamped with the Royal Cypher [ Crown/GR], “Tower”, and a small crown /2.
There is the standard ring necked cock, Frizzen spring, raised pan, and hinged Steel. Action to 1/2 & full cock is strong and sound.
There is an original one piece walnut stock, with no cracks, minor dings of use, and now to a great dark patina of age.
The brass furniture, including the trigger guard, butt cap, and ramrod pipe, is original, as is the complete ramrod, with a brass tip.
To the LHS to the lockplate, is a brass reverse plate, and an original steel belt hook, stamped with a small crown. The o/a length …19″
This type of pistol would have been carried by Naval Captains.
C 1750 – 1815.
Used in many wars, including the French and Indian wars, the American Revolution, Battle of Trafalgar 1805, and the Napoleonic wars, including the Peninsular wars of 1802 – 1814.
Later versions were made with a shorter 9″ barrel, and a steel ramrod.

After leaving my home town of Leicester, I went to University, and qualified as a Dental Surgeon at Guys Hospital in 1961 .
My main interests are British and North American Arms of the 18th, 19th,and early 20th Century, plus a few Continental items.
It was 14 years ago that I retired from Dentistry.
